Uddeshya 2026

About Event

Uddeshya, meaning ‘intent’, was created as a collaborative platform to advance gender-responsive urban mobility in India. Over the years, the conference has evolved as a space for sustained dialogue and action. Uddeshya, WRI India’s flagship event, brings together policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and civil society to strengthen how gender is integrated across urban mobility systems.

As Indian cities continue to grow rapidly, Uddeshya 2026 will focus on how mobility systems can be designed to better reflect the realities of people’s lives, particularly those shaped by care responsibilities and disability.

About Uddeshya

Since its launch in 2023, Uddeshya has evolved into a platform that brings together diverse stakeholders, deepens dialogue, and strengthens efforts to make urban mobility more inclusive. In its first edition, the forum focused on identifying pathways to integrate gender considerations into all levels of mobility planning and operations. The second edition highlighted how gender-responsive transport planning can improve access to jobs, education, and healthcare by addressing the gap between policy and on-ground delivery, while showcasing the breadth of work already happening in this space. It also marked the launch of the EquiMobility Champions initiative. By its third year, Uddeshya focused on gender-inclusive policies and introduced the Community of Practice on Gender-Responsive Urban Mobility to build shared knowledge and long-term engagement. Each year, the Uddeshya Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions to strengthening the gender and mobility ecosystem.

In 2026, Uddeshya will spotlight the intersection of gender with two historically invisible
